  • Where do you think you'd rather live in, Earth, Vekta (after the 2nd war), or one of the outlying colonies? After all, they all seem to have their goods and bads in the killzone universe, so I'm curious to see what you guys think.

    • Helghen, for the HELGHAN EMPIRE.

    • Helghan, or Vekta under Helghast occupation.

I think I'd prefer the latter

    • I would actually live Vekta, but in the Helghan occupation (I would also want to be a member of their society). I wouldn't pick Helghan because its kinda ugly (Sorry Col. Radec)

    • Hey.... It builds character...

    • Vekta Helghast Occupation for me as well. Air is less toxic.

    • YEAH!!! CLEAN AIR THAT DOESN'T MAKE YOU PSCHO

    • I mean PYSCHO

    • "it builds character" lol. That's what a lot of parents say to their kids if they're having a rly bad time doing something (vacation, hiking, etc.)

    • Exactly!

    • SJG

Probably Vekta, because it's basically earth, just with a different name.

    • I've changed my mind on this, on terms of lifestyle I definitely prefer Vekta under the Helghan corporation (mind you, long before the first extrasolar war). Living on Helghan could kill you and Vekta under Helghast occupation would be like the Nazis. But still, storywise I prefer Helghast.

    • I'd say Vekta instead of Helghan because of three reasons, 1: Helghan's atmosphere would kick up my breathing problems BAD. 2: Visari is pretty much openly wacko. and 3, THE WILD LIFE!!!

        Loading editor
    • That's the big thing I have with the Helghast. They have a good reason to hate and fight the ISA but there are quite a few homicidal maniacs within the Helghast army.

        Loading editor
    • Livin' on the Helghan side would be cool I guess.

        Loading editor
    • I guess you can run away to Vekta and become a forest hippie.

    • Very good question.

Earth seems to be far from the wars, but it's very condescending in regards to its colonies and apparently it's own scientists aren't talented enough to build quick warp drive technology to take people across known space quicker, or at least communication stations to keep in better touch with the colonies. I can even imagine it being as much of a police state as Helghan is.

The Alpha Cnetauri system had its prosperous moments, but Vekta has a history of trouble on its soil as Helghan is pretty much inhospitable.

Not a lot of information on the other colonies, though.

    • Helghan only because I would LOVE to visit and join the empire but I love there respect and loyalty to there leadership I'm not a space nazi or anything close to it, I can just see the hardship and blood to just create a culture and might that it became so feared and known just because they wanted to show that they can take care of there own and hold it. If a helghast recruiter came to me and asked me to join...i would

    • In real life... UCN on Earth or with the VSA on Vekta. Screw the higs, they crazy.

        Loading editor
    • i rather live in vekta because before the helghast take over ill kill sinclair then be like i own the isa now XD naw i probaly get shot or be running.

    • Hahahahaha, Helghan.

And I'd change my name to Zajek Kronenzorren

    • Pre-war Helghan or Vekta's part owned by the Helghast

I love the Helghasts, and unlike most people,I don't think they are anywhere close from being similar to the nazis besides their appearance.

Helghasts are a forsaken race, that even in the middle of shitstorm, were able to raise an empire and defeat a huge military alliance in a glorious war. Only to show that they are better than the Vektans and Earthlings thought they were.

ALL GLORY TO THE HELGHAN EMPIRE

ALL GLORY TO THE HELGHAN EMPIRE

The concept of a master race greater than other humans? (Nazi)

An ultranationislitc totalitarian society which condemns individuals that are not Helghast (Nazi)

The use of biological weaopons on POW/prisoners (Nazi)

The wholesale eradiction and enslavement of everyone that is not Helghast (nazi)

A dictatorial regime whereby a single figure-head rules (Nazi)

Also, the Helghast were the aggressors first and foremost. Perhaps the greatest irony of the Helghast was the idea that their cause was self-justified, that they were the victims when in reality they and they alone were the aggressors for the first and second Inter-Solar War and the events happening in Vekta.

It is made even worse when Visari and his associates profited from the suffering of the Helghan people while publicly blaming the Vektans for all their ills, and how Visari consolidated power amongst a chosen few selected solely based on their loyalty to him.

The Helghast represent the worst of humanity.

How were they the agressors when they got forcibly reduced during the first intersolar war for trying to claim independence from Earth when all they got was a colonial treatment akin to that of european empires towards their dominion? They got the short end of the stick and got sick of it, so they tried to become independant. What did earth do? send troops to burn them down. They fought back, and lost, got kicked off their own planet that they built up with blood and effort.

Hell they got their entire navy wiped off and their planet bombarded from orbit. The UCA was ruthless and killed indiscriminately, they didnt even bother invading the planet with their own troops they just frickin' bombed them to nothingness.

After they got beat down they were forcibly exiled out of their own homeworld into a hellhole.

Who the hell in their right mind wouldn't want revenge?

Visari needed loyalty to carry out his plans and forge on ahead, at that point, sacrifices were necessary and you can see that because they capitulated their new homeworld was nuked all over. How can the ISA/UCA be good?

They don't represent the worst of humanity. They represent the best of it, humans who will fight tooth and nail until the last man for their beliefs and for their countrymen and their land, which was rightfully theirs.

So you find a ruthless dictatorial regime who has killed hundreds of thousands of their own people and would stop at nothing until they've killed every single man, women and child in both Vekta and Earth (Pretrusite Bombing). This is considered the best in humanity? A nation of people whose only purpose in their lives is to simply seek revenge and inflict suffering upon another and all for the petty ambition of a cruel, degenerate man like Scholari Visari? By that logic, you'd probably be those few people who actually approved of what the Nazi's did.

haha, because you know after all, they were the victims right? Having to pay the allies for a war which they obviously didn't started (sarcasm) and lost much of their lands to them and blah, blah blah. It dosen't matter that they went to  great lengths to kill millions of innocents in those nasty deathcamps, they fought what they believed in and just took back what they believe is rightfully theirs!....

Haha, no dude, that kind of thinkinig is what resulted in our own world's greateset and most horrific act. If you can't see the PAINFULLY obvious similarities between the Helghast and the Nazi's, then I don't know what to say to you.

    • Just gonna pop in here as if I haven't been gone for years...

The Helghast and ISA both represent equally terrible aspects of humanity, both have committed countless war crimes and both continue to infringe upon sentient beings rights on a daily basis. ISA appear better visually due to a capitalist economy that distracts the populace with extreme consumerism and sleek architecture, but they are just as corrupt and abusive as the Helghast if you look into the lore. And the UCN outright ordered the Helghast to submit to UCN authority after the Helghast had lawfully purchased the system from them, hell they even tried getting the local ISA forces to join them in the beginning of the conflict, so they weren't the aggressors in that regard by any means.

According to in-universe lore, after the Helghast were defeated in a war they did not want, they were forcibly put under occupation from Earth. A resistance/terrorist movement arose as a result of this occupation, and the ISA's response was to initiate draconian laws and punishments across the entirety of the Helghast people, and eventually initiate and ethnic cleansing campaign against the Helghast. I'll try to find the Shadow Fall collectible that specifies that in a little bit.

Following an exodus that was practically forced upon them (but was still a willing choice on their part) the helghast suffer generations of oppression and mistreatment at the hands of the ISA, that eventually culminates in mass starvation on Helghan. This is the point when Visari rises. Up to this point, the Helghast are entirely the underdogs who would be rooted for in any other series.

It gets more complicated as the games start. Visari wants to wipe out the population of Earth after all. As for Vekta and the remaining colonies, while life for humans would suck the Helghast intended to keep them alive for the most part. Anyway.

In the S.E.W. you see Helghast gun down civilians and practice unrestricted, total war on Vekta and Helghan, which culminates in the nuclear obliteration of an already evacuated Pyrhhus on Helghan. In addition, they massacre of prisoners of war.

You also see the ISA experiment on Helghast civilians, orbitally bombard entire Helghast cities and develop weapons of mass destruction to be used against the Helghast, one of which being the Eschaton virus that was planned to be released across all of Helghan to exterminate the species entirely.

All the while, civilians on both sides mostly just want to live in peace, as seen in Shadow Fall. The point being, both sides are incredibly deep and complex, but also cruel and twisted in regards to how they act in the universe. To demonize or justify either side without context is rash and unreasonable.

      TL:DR, both sides suck.
