The New Sun is on the far right, number 68. When going through its descent frame-by-frame in the cutscene, one can see a slightly blurry "New Sun" inscribed on the ship's side.
The ISA Cruiser ISSC New Sun is the flagship of Battle Group Mandrake, a task force consisting of ten divisions of ISA legionnaires, used during Operation Archangel. It was under command of Colonel Jan Templar. During the course of the invasion, the cruiser was docked over Pyrrhus and was eventually attacked by Helghast forces, which resulted in the execution of Templar and ISA scientist Evelyn Batton by Helghast Colonel Radec and his forces, who were searching for the code data for the nuclear weapon Red Dust.
Destruction
The Cruiser was later destroyed when a dying Colonel Templar disengaged the thrusters, effectively crash landing directly into the Tharsis Refinery petrusite grid. The crash caused a massive explosion destroying the ship and disabling the petrusite shield perimeter of Pyrrhus. It possibly could have killed the Helghast on board too. This last act scattered debris of the ship, such as Exoskeletons, all over the Maelstra Barrens.
It was a heroic end for Templar and the New Sun, as it opened the door for ISA forces to invade Visari Palace, and possibly take Scolar Visari prisoner.
Trivia
- The New Sun is seen launching with the second wave of attacking Cruisers even though it was part of the 3rd wave leading Battle Group Mandrake. This lead to confusion within this wiki.
