Killzone-Shadow-Fall-Owl

The VSA-HCD 1.3 or OWL is an advanced hovering combat drone featured in Killzone Shadow Fall.

Overview[]

The OWL is used exclusively by the VSA Shadow Marshals to give them different kinds of tactical abilities in the field. It attaches itself onto the Shadow Marshal's suit until they give it an order. When damaged, the OWL automatically returns and repairs itself until it receives an order again.

Features[]

The OWL has a number of different modes that players can access via the PS4 Controller Touch Pad.

  • Attack Mode - Orders the OWL to move to an area and attack anyone within range; alternatively, it can be commanded to attack a single enemy directly. It will continue to attack until given another order, or until it runs out of power.
  • Zipline - The OWL fires a zipline, allowing the Shadow Marshal to traverse incredibly quickly across difficult to reach areas.
  • OWL Shield - When the terrain allows, the OWL deploy a nano shield right in front of the Shadow Marshal. This shield will block incoming enemy fire while permitting the Shadow Marshal to shoot through. The shield can absorb significant damage before it deconstructs. Deploying a shield drains the OWL of power.
  • OWL Stun - The OWL use up its power to create an area-of-effect shock blast that turns off all nearby electronics and stuns humanoid enemies within range.
  • OWL Hack - The OWL has the ability to hack computer consoles, alarms and other electronic equipment. When the Shadow Marshal focuses on anything hackable, the on-screen OWL icon will indicate that this action is possible.
  • OWL Revive - In the event of the Shadow Marshal being seriously injured, the OWL can use one of the adrenaline packs the Shadow Marshal carries to help restore them to combat effectiveness. This is only possible if the Shadow Marshal has an adrenaline pack, the OWL is in a functioning state and the Shadow Marshal’s injures can be healed.
  • OWL Return - At any point, press and hold the L1 button to call back the OWL. When docked with the Shadow Marshal’s suit, the OWL will recharge power.

Trivia[]

  • According to lead designer Eric Boltjes, the idea for the OWL grew out of a desire to give players more control.[1]
  • Several exclusive OWL skins are available in the PlayStation Store. These skins can be used for both multiplayer and single player. Some skins include Pink Zebra, Shark Teeth, Taxi Cab, Red Star, and Race Car.
