Rico's Raiders was a group of stranded ISA Marines led by Master Sergeant Rico Velasquez on Helghan during the Second Extrasolar War.
History[]
Beginning[]
In the wake of Operation Archangel, the severely weakened ISA invasion force was faced with complete annihilation at the hands of a deadly Helghast counterattack, and were forced to make a hurried evacuation on the remaining cruisers. During the evacuation, an ISA unit under the command of Jammer called out for backup as they were pinned down by Helghast forces. When Captain Jason Narville could not provide more help for Jammer's group after the Intruders he sent were destroyed, Master Sergeant Rico Velasquez disobeyed his orders and went off to rescue Jammer's unit. Narville was then forced to abandon Velasquez as he and his men were making their way toward the cruisers.
Rico and the other abandoned ISA forces watched the remaining cruisers attempt to flee but only to be shot down by MAWLR fire. The surviving ISA ships left Helghan and stranding many ISA forces on the planet. The ISA were left scattered. With no one else to turn to, Rico and Jammer gathered whatever remaining vehicles, weapons, and ISA survivors they could find, forming the Raiders.
Continued Operations[]
For six months the Raiders combated the Helghast through guerrilla warfare. They hacked into Helghast communications and performed hit-and-run missions on several Helghast bases. The Raiders operate Intruders fitted with Helghast heavy weapons, and continue to use their M82 rifles and M224 machines guns in ground combat. They dress in ragged uniforms and wear blankets and scarves over their faces and body to try and fend off the frigid cold of Helghan's colder regions. They generally share their commanders' bravado, and conviction when attacking the Helghast. They hold unmatched camaraderie among themselves and seem to have given up on Jason Narville's leadership. Despite loyally following Rico for six months, several Raiders express reservations on saving Narville. Jammer appears to serve the second-in-command of the Raiders, as Rico allowed her to take command while he and Sev go off to rescue Narville.
After Narville and other prisoners of war were rescued, the Raiders traveled to the Stahl's facility to extract them on their own volition. They merged with Narville's ISA remnants, successfully stop Jorhan Stahl's attempted invasion of Earth, escape Helghan, and inadvertently cause the Terracide in the process.
