- " Diortem, The jewel of the South..."
- —Damian Ivanov
Diortem is a strategic city located in Southern Vekta. Prior to the Helghast invasion, the city was treasured by Vektans. Here, the ISA researched technology for use in the war. The city was the location for an ISA bioweapon's program.
During the initial invasion on Southern Vekta, Diortem was one of the first locations to be captured by the Helghast. At the request of General Armin Metrac, Helghast Colonel Vyktor Kratek was tasked with invading the city. After a successful conquest, Kratek had several senior ISA members held hostage. Among these hostages was the ISA Admiral Alex Grey, who headed biological weapons reaserch in Diortem.
Following news of Grey's capture, the ISA requested the aid of the Phantom Talon Corp, an elite group of headhunters. Mercenaries Arran Danner and Damian Ivanov were selected for the mission. The admiral was revealed to be held hostage in the Halls of Justice. The plan was simple: Danner and Ivanov would glidesuit to the building, make their way through the halls, and eventually save Grey from captivity. Unfortunately, unexpected difficulties arised when Kratek shot Grey, delivering a nearly-fatal blow. Even so, the mercenaries still managed to save the admiral, even if Kratek escaped.
Even with the admiral safe, the war in Diortem wasn't over yet. A downed Helghast cruiser lay stranded, depriving the entire city of power in an attempt to repair itself. Onboard the cruiser is a stockpile of looted weaponry, as well as communication codes between the entire Helghast fleet. Once again, Danner and Ivanov were chosen for the mission. After infiltrating the ship, Danner managed to download the codes from a terminal. Unfortunately, a failsafe left Ivanov quarantined, with a timer counting down. Despite the casualty, the mission was a success.
